Description

MikroTik SXTsq Lite5 RBSXTsq5nD – 16dBi 5GHz Outdoor CPE

MikroTik SXTsq Lite5 RBSXTsq5nD, also known as the SXTsq Lite5, is a compact outdoor 5GHz wireless CPE and point-to-point networking device designed for directional wireless connectivity. It features an integrated 16dBi directional antenna, dual-chain 802.11a/n wireless technology and a compact weather-resistant enclosure.

The SXTsq Lite5 is designed for applications such as point-to-point wireless links, outdoor customer premises equipment, network extensions and wireless connectivity between locations. MikroTik specifies a maximum theoretical wireless data rate of 300Mbps on its 5GHz radio. The actual throughput achieved in a deployment depends on signal strength, channel conditions, interference, distance, modulation and configuration.

Unlike the newer SXTsq 5 ac, this model uses Wi-Fi 4 / 802.11n technology and has a 10/100 Ethernet port rather than Gigabit Ethernet. MikroTik currently lists the RBSXTsq5nD as a discontinued product.

Key Features of MikroTik SXTsq Lite5

  • 5GHz Wireless: Supports 802.11a/n wireless standards.
  • 16dBi Integrated Antenna: Directional antenna for focused outdoor wireless connectivity.
  • Up to 300Mbps PHY Rate: Maximum theoretical wireless data rate of 300Mbps.
  • Dual-Chain Radio: Uses two wireless chains for 802.11n connectivity.
  • 10/100 Ethernet: Includes one Fast Ethernet port.
  • Outdoor Design: IP54-rated enclosure for outdoor installations.
  • Passive PoE: Powered using passive PoE with a 10–30V input range.
  • RouterOS: Runs MikroTik RouterOS with Level 3 license.
  • Compact Form Factor: Approximately 129 × 129 × 34mm.
  • Low Power Consumption: Maximum power consumption is approximately 6W.

16dBi Integrated Directional Antenna

The MikroTik SXTsq Lite5 incorporates a 16dBi directional antenna into its compact enclosure. The directional design focuses the wireless signal toward the intended connection instead of providing broad omnidirectional coverage.

This makes the device suitable for applications where a focused 5GHz wireless path is required, including point-to-point links and outdoor CPE deployments.

The integrated antenna also simplifies installation because no separate external antenna is required for normal operation. For precise alignment, MikroTik supports compatible mounting accessories such as the QuickMount Pro, which provides additional adjustment flexibility.

5GHz 802.11n Wireless Connectivity

The SXTsq Lite5 operates in the 5GHz band and supports 802.11a/n. It uses a dual-chain radio and has a maximum theoretical wireless data rate of 300Mbps.

The 300Mbps specification is a wireless PHY rate and should not be interpreted as guaranteed application-level throughput. Real-world performance can be lower because of channel utilization, interference, signal quality, distance, antenna alignment, channel width, protocol overhead and network configuration.

This model should specifically be positioned as a Wi-Fi 4 outdoor wireless CPE. It is not an 802.11ac/Wi-Fi 5 product and should not be marketed as Wi-Fi 6.

Outdoor Point-to-Point Wireless Link

Two SXTsq Lite5 units can be deployed as a dedicated wireless bridge between two locations. The integrated directional antennas can be aligned toward each other to create a focused 5GHz wireless connection.

Typical point-to-point applications include:

  • Building-to-building connectivity
  • Office-to-warehouse networking
  • Remote site network extension
  • Outdoor CCTV backhaul
  • Farm or rural network connectivity
  • Temporary network links
  • Small WISP installations
  • Point-to-point Ethernet bridging

For outdoor wireless links, clear line-of-sight and appropriate Fresnel-zone clearance are important. Buildings, trees, terrain and other obstructions can affect signal strength and link stability.

Outdoor CPE for WISP Networks

The SXTsq Lite5 can also be used as a customer premises device in suitable 5GHz wireless networks. Its integrated directional antenna allows the unit to connect toward a compatible wireless access point or distribution system.

RouterOS provides configuration capabilities for routing, bridging, firewall rules, bandwidth management and other networking functions. The exact configuration depends on the network architecture and whether the device is deployed as a routed CPE or transparent wireless bridge.

10/100 Fast Ethernet Interface

The RBSXTsq5nD has one 10/100 Ethernet port. This is an important distinction when comparing it with the newer SXTsq 5 ac.

The Ethernet interface is Fast Ethernet rather than Gigabit Ethernet. Therefore, the wired interface can become a practical throughput limitation even though the wireless PHY specification is rated at up to 300Mbps.

MikroTik’s published Ethernet test results for the RBSXTsq5nD show approximately 98.4Mbps in 1518-byte fast-path bridging and routing tests under the specified test conditions. Actual performance varies with configuration and packet characteristics.

Passive PoE Power

The SXTsq Lite5 uses passive PoE for power. MikroTik specifies a PoE input range of 10–30V and maximum power consumption of approximately 6W.

The standard package includes a 24V 0.38A power adapter, metal mounting ring and PoE injector.

Compact Outdoor Enclosure

The SXTsq Lite5 uses a compact enclosure measuring approximately 129 × 129 × 34mm. MikroTik designed the SXTsq form factor to be considerably thinner than earlier SXT designs while retaining an integrated directional antenna.

The device carries an IP54 rating and has a tested ambient temperature range of approximately -40°C to +70°C. It can be mounted on horizontal or vertical poles and masts.

MikroTik SXTsq Lite5 Applications
