The MikroTik CRS106-1C-5S is a compact smart switch designed for fiber-based Ethernet networks, SFP connectivity and small-scale network aggregation. It provides 5 × 1.25G SFP cages together with 1 × Gigabit Ethernet/SFP combo interface, allowing up to six SFP-capable network connections depending on the selected interface configuration.
The CRS106-1C-5S is designed for indoor network deployments and uses a compact desktop form factor. Its SFP interfaces support compatible 100Mbps and 1.25Gbps SFP modules, making it suitable for fiber links, point-to-point connections and network aggregation where standard SFP rather than SFP+ connectivity is required.
The CRS106-1C-5S provides five dedicated SFP cages. These interfaces are designed for standard SFP modules and support link speeds up to 1.25Gbps, depending on the installed transceiver.
Because these are standard SFP interfaces, the CRS106-1C-5S should not be confused with MikroTik switches equipped with 10G SFP+ ports. The maximum interface class of the five dedicated SFP ports is 1.25Gbps.
The sixth interface is a Combo port that provides both a Gigabit Ethernet connector and an SFP interface. These two physical connectors share the same logical interface, so only one can be used at a time.
The combo interface automatically recognizes the active physical connection, while the software configuration can also be used to select the desired interface. This provides additional flexibility for connecting the switch to either copper Ethernet or an SFP-based network.
The combination of five dedicated SFP ports and one SFP/Ethernet combo interface makes the CRS106-1C-5S useful for compact fiber aggregation deployments.
For example, several fiber-connected network segments can be terminated on the five SFP ports while the combo interface provides a Gigabit copper or fiber connection toward another network device.
The actual network distance and performance depend on the selected SFP modules, fiber type, optical specifications and connected equipment.
The CRS106-1C-5S belongs to MikroTik’s Cloud Router Switch family and provides management capabilities for network switching applications. It is supplied as a switch and can be configured through MikroTik’s management tools.
Current MikroTik documentation identifies SwOS as the only supported operating system for this model, while the product page retains legacy RouterOS Level 5 information. For product positioning and current deployment guidance, SwOS should therefore be treated as the supported operating environment.
SwOS provides web-based management features for configuring and monitoring the switch. Depending on the software version and configuration, administrators can manage VLANs, forwarding, filtering, traffic controls and other Layer 2 functions.
The CRS106 platform also supports features such as VLAN configuration, ACL functionality and static link aggregation according to MikroTik’s CRS documentation.
The CRS106-1C-5S supports passive PoE-in through its combo Ethernet interface. The device can also be powered through its dedicated DC input.
MikroTik documentation specifies an input range of approximately 11–30V DC on the product specification page, while the current user documentation describes the DC jack and passive PoE input with an operating range extending from 8–30V. Always use an approved power source appropriate for the device and installation.
Important: PoE-in is for powering the CRS106-1C-5S. This model is not a PoE-out switch and should not be positioned as a PoE-powered-device distribution switch.
The CRS106-1C-5S uses a compact desktop enclosure measuring approximately 114 × 137 × 29 mm. Its passive cooling design avoids the use of conventional cooling fans.
The compact form factor makes it suitable for small network cabinets, fiber termination points, office network installations and other locations where a dedicated rackmount switch would be unnecessarily large.
MikroTik’s published testing reports approximately 5.92Gbps Layer 2 throughput and 11.84Gbps Layer 2 switching capacity with 1518-byte packets under the specified non-blocking test methodology.
These figures represent manufacturer test results and should not be interpreted as guaranteed application throughput. Actual performance depends on packet size, traffic patterns, configuration and enabled features.
The CRS106-1C-5S is suitable for a variety of indoor fiber networking applications.
The CRS106-1C-5S uses standard SFP interfaces, not SFP+ interfaces. Its five dedicated SFP ports support 100Mbps and 1.25Gbps-class SFP modules.
Therefore, this switch should not be marketed as a 10G switch. Customers requiring 10Gbps SFP+ connectivity should consider a MikroTik model from the CRS range equipped with SFP+ ports.
