MikroTik ROSE Data Server RDS2216 is a high-performance enterprise platform that combines storage, high-speed networking, routing and container capabilities in a single 1U rackmount system. Designed around MikroTik’s special RouterOS v7 ROSE Edition for Storage & Compute, the RDS2216 is built for demanding storage, networking, virtualization and self-hosted infrastructure workloads.
The RDS2216 provides 20 U.2 NVMe drive slots along with high-speed networking interfaces including 2 × 100G QSFP28, 4 × 25G SFP28, 4 × 10G SFP+ and 2 × 10G Ethernet ports. It is powered by a 16-core AL73400 ARM64 processor at 2GHz and includes 32GB DDR4 RAM.
The RDS2216 is MikroTik’s ROSE Data Server, combining the functions of a high-speed storage platform, network router, compute platform and container host.
Traditional infrastructure often separates routers, storage servers and compute systems into multiple appliances. The RDS2216 brings these capabilities together, allowing organizations to build high-speed storage and networking infrastructure around RouterOS and ROSE storage functionality.

According to MikroTik, each U.2 drive is connected using 2 × PCIe 3.0 lanes, providing up to 16Gbps of interface bandwidth per drive. The entire disk plane uses a 16-lane PCIe 3.0 connection to the CPU, providing up to 128Gbps of aggregate PCIe bandwidth for the drive plane.

The two 100G QSFP28 interfaces provide high-bandwidth connectivity for data-center, storage and backbone environments. They can be used for compatible 100Gbps optical or direct-attach connectivity according to the requirements of the network.
100G uplinks can be particularly useful when the server is connected to high-speed spine, aggregation or core infrastructure where multiple 10G and 25G workloads need to be transported through a high-capacity network.
Four 25G SFP28 interfaces provide additional high-speed connectivity for servers, switches and storage networks.
25Gbps Ethernet is increasingly used for server and data-center connectivity because it provides higher bandwidth than 10Gbps while using a relatively compact SFP28 interface. The RDS2216 can therefore be integrated into networks using both 25G server connections and 100G upstream links.

The RDS2216 uses the 98DX4310 switch chip, which MikroTik identifies as providing Layer 3 hardware offloading capabilities. The same switch-chip family is also used in selected high-speed MikroTik switching platforms.
Hardware offloading can reduce CPU involvement for supported switching and routing operations, although the actual benefit depends on the RouterOS configuration and enabled features.
The MikroTik ROSE Data Server includes dual hot-swappable power supplies. This allows a failed power-supply module to be replaced without necessarily shutting down the complete system when the remaining PSU is operating correctly.
