TP-Link Archer C64 is an AC1200 dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router designed for homes, apartments and small offices that require reliable wireless connectivity along with Gigabit Ethernet. It supports IEEE 802.11ac on the 5GHz band and provides a theoretical wireless speed of up to 867Mbps on 5GHz and 400Mbps on 2.4GHz.

Archer C64 includes 1× Gigabit WAN port and 4× Gigabit LAN ports, allowing it to support high-speed broadband connections and Gigabit wired networking. It also features MU-MIMO, Beamforming and Airtime Fairness to improve wireless network efficiency when multiple compatible devices are connected.

The router supports Router Mode and Access Point Mode. TP-Link also lists EasyMesh support, allowing compatible EasyMesh devices to be combined to extend wireless coverage across a home or small office network.

AC1200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi

Archer C64 operates simultaneously on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands. The 5GHz band supports up to 867Mbps, while the 2.4GHz band supports up to 400Mbps theoretical PHY rate.

The AC1200 classification refers to the combined theoretical wireless PHY rates. It does not mean that a single device can download at 1200Mbps. Actual throughput depends on the connected client, channel conditions, interference, distance, network traffic and other environmental factors.

867Mbps 5GHz Wi-Fi 5

The 5GHz band uses IEEE 802.11ac and supports a theoretical maximum rate of 867Mbps. It is suitable for higher-bandwidth applications such as HD and 4K streaming, online gaming, video conferencing and large file transfers when compatible client devices are used.

5GHz generally provides higher wireless capacity than 2.4GHz, although its coverage through walls can be lower depending on the building environment.

400Mbps 2.4GHz Wi-Fi

Archer C64 supports up to 400Mbps theoretical speed on the 2.4GHz band using compatible 802.11n clients.

The 2.4GHz band is useful for everyday wireless devices and equipment that benefits from longer propagation compared with 5GHz. Both wireless bands can operate simultaneously.

MU-MIMO Technology

MU-MIMO allows Archer C64 to communicate with multiple compatible wireless clients simultaneously. This can improve wireless network efficiency in environments where several supported devices are actively using the network.

The actual benefit of MU-MIMO depends on the capabilities of the connected client devices.

Beamforming Technology

Archer C64 supports Beamforming, which helps direct wireless signal toward compatible connected devices. This can improve signal quality and wireless coverage in suitable network conditions.

Beamforming does not guarantee a fixed wireless range or throughput because actual performance depends on the surrounding RF environment and client hardware.

Four High-Performance External Antennas

Archer C64 uses four fixed high-performance antennas. TP-Link specifies Wi-Fi coverage for approximately 3-bedroom houses under its stated test conditions.

Actual coverage depends on building materials, walls, floors, interference, router placement, client location and the number of simultaneously connected devices.

Access Point Mode

Archer C64 supports Access Point Mode. In this mode, the router can provide wireless connectivity through an existing wired network.

This is useful when another router, gateway or ISP device is already handling routing and DHCP and Archer C64 is being deployed primarily to provide Wi-Fi coverage.

EasyMesh Support

TP-Link lists EasyMesh support for Archer C64. Compatible EasyMesh devices can be combined to create a whole-home wireless network with coordinated coverage and roaming.

TP-Link firmware documentation also shows improvements to EasyMesh functionality, including Ethernet backhaul support on supported firmware. Exact EasyMesh features depend on the hardware revision and firmware installed on the router.

WPA3 Wireless Security

Archer C64 supports WPA3 wireless encryption along with WPA and WPA2 compatibility. WPA3 can provide stronger modern wireless security when compatible client devices are used.

The router also supports WPA/WPA2-Enterprise with 802.1x according to TP-Link’s product specifications.

Guest Wi-Fi Network
