Description

MikroTik CCR2004-16G-2S+ Cloud Core Router

MikroTik CCR2004-16G-2S+ is a high-performance Cloud Core Router designed for enterprise networks, service providers, data centers, ISPs and other professional networking environments. It combines 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports with 2 × 10G SFP+ ports, a quad-core ARM64 processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM and MikroTik RouterOS v7 in a 1U rackmount platform.

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ is powered by an AL32400 quad-core CPU running at 1.7 GHz. It provides 4GB of DDR4 memory and 128MB NAND storage. The platform is designed to deliver substantial routing and packet-processing capability while providing multiple Gigabit interfaces and 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplinks.

16 Gigabit Ethernet Ports and 2× 10G SFP+

One of the main advantages of the MikroTik CCR2004-16G-2S+ is its high port density. The router provides 16 × 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet ports for connecting LAN segments, servers, switches, access points and other network equipment.

For high-speed uplinks and interconnection with other networking equipment, the router adds 2 × 10G SFP+ cages. These interfaces can be used for 10 Gigabit fiber or compatible SFP+ direct-attach solutions, depending on the required network design and compatible transceivers. MikroTik’s compatibility documentation lists the CCR2004-16G-2S+ with a range of supported SFP+ modules and cables.

  • 16 × 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2 × 10G SFP+ interfaces
  • High-speed SFP+ uplinks
  • Suitable for LAN aggregation and core routing
  • Designed for professional rackmount deployments

Quad-Core 1.7 GHz ARM64 Processor

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ uses a quad-core AL32400 ARM 64-bit processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. The ARM64 architecture provides the processing platform for RouterOS v7 and advanced routing functions.

The router is equipped with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 128MB NAND storage. This hardware configuration gives the CCR2004 sufficient resources for demanding routing, firewall, VPN, VLAN, BGP and other RouterOS-based network configurations.

RouterOS v7 Cloud Core Routing Platform

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ runs MikroTik RouterOS v7 with a Level 6 license. RouterOS provides a comprehensive networking platform rather than a simple fixed-function routing interface.

Depending on the network architecture, the CCR2004 can be configured for:

  • Enterprise IP routing
  • Internet gateway routing
  • ISP edge routing
  • BGP routing
  • OSPF and other dynamic routing protocols
  • Firewall and NAT
  • VLAN routing
  • VPN services
  • Traffic shaping and queues
  • Bandwidth management
  • Network segmentation
  • Route aggregation
  • High-density LAN routing

Designed for Enterprise and ISP Networks

The combination of 16 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, dual 10G SFP+ connectivity and a quad-core ARM64 processor makes the MikroTik CCR2004-16G-2S+ suitable for networks that require a larger number of wired interfaces and high-speed uplinks.

Typical deployment environments include:

  • Internet Service Providers
  • Enterprise networks
  • Data center edge networks
  • Corporate headquarters
  • Network operation centers
  • SMB and mid-sized business networks
  • Campus networks
  • Server-room deployments
  • Internet gateway applications
  • Core and aggregation routing

Two Independent Gigabit Port Groups

The 16 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces are arranged through two Marvell switch chips. MikroTik’s documentation identifies the switch-chip architecture as 88E6191X / 88E619X, with the Ethernet ports divided between the two switch-chip groups.

This architecture is designed to provide high-speed connectivity between the Ethernet interfaces and the routing processor. The exact forwarding and routing performance depends on the RouterOS configuration and the functions being processed by the CPU.

10G SFP+ Uplinks

The two 10G SFP+ ports allow the CCR2004 to connect to high-speed fiber infrastructure, switches, servers and other compatible networking equipment.

A common network architecture can use the Gigabit Ethernet ports for access or downstream connections while the SFP+ interfaces provide high-speed uplinks toward an aggregation switch, core network or upstream router.

Compatible SFP/SFP+ modules, DAC cables and fiber infrastructure should be selected according to distance, fiber type, wavelength, data rate and the equipment connected at the other end.

1U Rackmount Cloud Core Router

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ is designed for rackmount installation and has a standard 1U form factor. Its dimensions are approximately 443 × 210 × 44 mm. Rackmount brackets are included with the standard package.

This makes the router suitable for installation in enterprise network racks, server rooms, ISP infrastructure and professional network cabinets.

Dual AC Power Supplies

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ includes two integrated AC power inputs. The supported AC input range is 100–240V. MikroTik specifies maximum power consumption of approximately 48W, with 35W listed as maximum consumption without attachments in its specifications.

The dual power-input design can be incorporated into a power-resilient rack infrastructure when connected to appropriate independent power sources or UPS systems.

Professional Network Monitoring

RouterOS provides tools for monitoring interfaces, traffic, system resources and network status. The CCR2004 platform also supports hardware health monitoring functions available through RouterOS.

Network administrators can use RouterOS management tools such as WinBox, WebFig, CLI and supported remote-management methods depending on their network security policy.

CCR2004-16G-2S+ for BGP and Advanced Routing

The MikroTik CCR2004 can be used in network architectures requiring advanced routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF. RouterOS provides configuration options for dynamic routing, route filtering, policy-based routing and other routing functions.

For ISP and enterprise environments, the appropriate hardware model should be selected according to route-table size, number of peers, traffic volume, firewall requirements, VPN workload and required redundancy.

Firewall, NAT and VLAN Capabilities

RouterOS allows the CCR2004 to operate as a firewall and Internet gateway while also supporting NAT and VLAN-based network segmentation.

Common deployments can include separate VLANs for departments, servers, guest users, voice networks, CCTV systems or management traffic. Firewall policies can then be applied according to the organization’s network-security requirements.

CCR2004-16G-2S+ Performance

MikroTik positions the CCR2004-16G-2S+ as a high-performance Cloud Core Router with strong single-core performance and high overall performance per watt within its CCR family. Actual routing throughput depends on packet size, routing configuration, firewall rules, queues, VPN encryption and other RouterOS features enabled.

For this reason, manufacturer benchmark figures should be treated as configuration-specific performance measurements rather than guaranteed Internet bandwidth.

Important Difference: CCR2004-16G-2S+ vs CCR2004-16G-2S+PC

The CCR2004-16G-2S+ should not be confused with the similarly named CCR2004-16G-2S+PC. The standard CCR2004-16G-2S+ uses a 1.7 GHz AL32400 CPU and has integrated AC power supplies, while the PC variant is a different hardware configuration.

Therefore, product listings, quotations and technical documentation should use the exact model number to avoid supplying or specifying the wrong CCR2004 variant.
